Job Description

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Background in hospital-based occupational therapy (OT)
  • Capability to safely assist with patient transfers (bed, chair, floor)
  • Demonstrated understanding of safe body mechanics to minimize injury risk
  • Ability to develop and modify individualized care plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices
  • Strong competence in teaching patients, families, caregivers, and colleagues
  • Experience using standardized outcome measures and performing reliable clinical evaluations

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Perform patient assessments to establish physical therapy diagnoses and identify therapy needs
  • Design, implement, and adjust treatment and discharge plans according to ongoing clinical findings
  • Educate patients, families, and healthcare providers using appropriate and effective instructional methods
  • Collaborate with patients, families, and other care team members throughout the rehabilitation process
  • Utilize support personnel within regulatory and ethical guidelines; monitor their work and provide consistent feedback
  • Document evaluations, care plans, modifications, and patient responses per department and regulatory standards
  • Modify therapeutic approaches in response to patient performance or behavioral cues
  • Ensure compliance with departmental and regulatory standards, including DNV Hip and Knee Replacement Program requirements if relevant
  • Communicate changes in patient status and transition needs effectively to the medical team
  • Supervise certified occupational therapy assistants (COTA) and rehab technicians as required
