Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in special education, visual impairment, or related field
- Experience working with K-12 students in educational settings
- Proficiency with Braille and assistive technology for students with visual impairments
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Adaptability to collaborate with students, families, and school staff
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both one-on-one and in small groups
- Assess students functional vision and learning needs
- Modify general curriculum materials into accessible formats (Braille, large print, audio)
- Support classroom teachers with strategies and accommodations
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to planning for student success
- Train students on the effective use of assistive technology and mobility tools
- Maintain accurate records and timely documentation
