Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in special education, visual impairment, or related field
  • Experience working with K-12 students in educational settings
  • Proficiency with Braille and assistive technology for students with visual impairments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Adaptability to collaborate with students, families, and school staff

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, both one-on-one and in small groups
  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs
  • Modify general curriculum materials into accessible formats (Braille, large print, audio)
  • Support classroom teachers with strategies and accommodations
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to planning for student success
  • Train students on the effective use of assistive technology and mobility tools
  • Maintain accurate records and timely documentation
