Job Description

Make a difference in the lives of K-12 students with moderate to severe vision impairments by providing specialized support and instruction in an engaging contract role. This opportunity runs from late August through early June and offers a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week. As an itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired, youll collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families, ensuring every student receives the individualized education and tools they need to thrive.

What Youll Do:

  • Conduct comprehensive vision assessments for K-12 students
  • Deliver direct instruction in assistive technology and orientation/mobility
  • Adapt curriculum materials and develop accessible learning strategies
  • Work in partnership with teachers, aides, and support staff across multiple schools
  • Provide ongoing guidance and resources for families and teams
  • Maintain clear documentation and participate in IEP meetings as needed

Preferred Background:

  • Hold current Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with moderate to severe vision impairments
  • Strong skills in tailoring instruction and integrating assistive technology solutions
  • Effective communicator comfortable collaborating with multidisciplinary teams
  • Highly organized and flexible, able to serve students across multiple locations
