Job Description

This full-time contract position offers the chance to support K-12 students in a vibrant school community near the beautiful coast of Virginia. The assignment runs from August 2025 to May 2026, with a standard weekly schedule of 37.5 hours.

As a Teacher of the Visually Impaired, your expertise will guide students across multiple grade levels, ensuring access to curriculum, specialized instruction, and tools that foster independence and academic success. Your collaborative approach will support educators and families in creating an inclusive environment.

Qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required/non-negotiable)
  • Experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments, preferably in K-12 settings
  • Strong interpersonal skills and adaptability for working across different schools and grade levels
  • Commitment to differentiated instruction and use of accessible educational materials
  • Comfort with situational interview formats and timely hiring processes

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, tailored to individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Develop and implement strategies and adaptations to maximize students access to learning
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, families, and support staff
  • Conduct assessments and maintain accurate progress documentation
  • Travel between schools as needed within the vicinity of Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk
