Make a meaningful difference for students with visual impairments as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in the vibrant communities near Virginia Beach. This full-time contract position covers the 20252026 academic year, supporting K12 students across several schools. You'll collaborate closely with educators and support staff to provide specialized instruction and advocacy, ensuring every student receives individualized support to thrive academically and socially.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required)
• Prior experience teaching students with visual impairments in a school setting
• Solid understanding of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Braille instruction, assistive technology, and accessibility tools
• Confidence navigating a K12 caseload, adapting to varied disability levels
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
• Commitment to fostering independence, inclusion, and academic achievement

Key Responsibilities:

• Deliver direct instructional support tailored for visually impaired students, fostering independence and confidence
• Assess student needs and develop and implement IEPs in partnership with IEP teams
• Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt materials and strategies for mainstream classrooms
• Introduce and train students on assistive technology, mobility, and Braille as appropriate
• Consult with families to provide resources, guidance, and ongoing communication about student progress
• Travel between partner schools in Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk as needed
