Qualifications & Preferred Experience:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have vision impairments
  • Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive devices
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative approach with educators, families, and support staff
  • Flexible and resourceful in adapting curriculum materials
  • Passionate about fostering independence and growth in students

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess students unique educational and accessibility needs
  • Design and execute customized lesson plans aimed at enhancing learning and life skills
  • Incorporate specialized instructional methods, technology, and materials to support visual needs
  • Advocate for and teach the use of adaptive tools, including Braille, large print, and audio resources
  • Work with classroom teachers to ensure accommodations are met in general education settings
  • Provide direct instruction and ongoing progress evaluations
  • Serve as a resource for school teams and families, offering training and support when needed
