Empower students by providing essential vision support services in an educational setting as a contracted Teacher of the Visually Impaired. This position supports students with visual impairments, helping them overcome challenges and access academic resources in a positive, collaborative school environment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Credentialed as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Demonstrated experience working with children with visual impairments in an academic setting
- Solid understanding of Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive educational strategies
- Strong collaboration skills to work with general education teachers, families, and related service providers
- Ability to develop and adapt Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Compassionate communicator with excellent organizational skills
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess individual student needs and create tailored instructional plans
- Deliver direct instruction to students in Braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology
- Modify classroom materials and collaborate with staff to ensure accessibility for all learning activities
- Conduct regular progress assessments and update IEPs as necessary
- Provide guidance, training, and support to fellow educators and families about strategies for students with visual impairments
- Remain current with best practices and evolving technology for vision education
