Job Description

Desired Qualifications/Experience:

  • Credentialed or experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or Braillist
  • Proficiency in teaching Braille and assistive technology for visually impaired learners
  • Knowledge of instructional strategies tailored to K-12 students with diverse vision needs
  • Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with students, families, and school staff
  • Ability to adapt curriculum materials into accessible formats

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative educational support to students with visual impairments
  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs, recommending appropriate instructional modifications
  • Teach Braille literacy and other adaptive skills to students individually or in small groups
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, specialists, and parents to support inclusion and academic achievement
  • Modify classroom materials and utilize adaptive technology to ensure content is accessible
  • Support students in building independence, orientation, and mobility skills as needed
  • Maintain thorough progress records and contribute to IEP meetings
