Job Description

Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working with students with visual impairments in school or educational settings
  • Solid understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive educational materials
  • Excellent communication skills for collaboration with students, families, and staff
  • Ability to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
  • Assess student needs and develop tailored educational materials and accommodations
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other service providers to ensure inclusive classroom strategies
  • Teach Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and use of assistive technology as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings, maintain accurate records, and document student progress
  • Offer guidance and resources to families to enhance at-home support
