Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working directly with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
  • Familiarity with Braille, large print materials, and assistive technology to ensure accessible instruction
  • Strong communication skills to effectively work with multi-disciplinary teams and families
  • Adaptability and resourcefulness when modifying curriculum or developing individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess individual student needs and tailor instruction to support optimal learning
  • Create and adapt instructional materials, including Braille and tactile graphics, to meet accessibility standards
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify coursework and provide consultative services
  • Develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals in conjunction with students, parents, and the IEP team
  • Support students both individually and in group settings, ensuring they have the tools and strategies to thrive academically
  • Provide staff development and training as needed on strategies for supporting students with visual impairments
