Job Description

Step into a meaningful role supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This contract position focuses on providing expert instruction and adaptive strategies to help students with visual impairments achieve academic and personal success. Based near Suffolk, VA, this opportunity begins as soon as possible and runs through the end of the school year.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Active Virginia Teaching License as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Proven experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting preferred
  • Strong collaboration and communication abilities with students, families, and educational teams
  • Skill in developing and adapting curriculum to meet student needs
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a caseload of 14 students diagnosed with visual impairments, ensuring each receives appropriate and individualized instruction
  • Design and implement lesson plans aligned with students IEP goals and objectives
  • Conduct ongoing assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to promote student achievement and inclusion
  • Provide guidance on the use of assistive technology and accessible instructional materials
  • Participate in IEP meetings, documentation, and goal-setting to ensure compliance with educational standards
