Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairments
  • Experience working with students who have various levels of vision loss
  • Strong skills in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive devices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Genuine passion for making education accessible and meaningful

Role Responsibilities:

  • Assess students visual functioning and learning needs within the school environment
  • Modify and adapt curriculum materials, including textbooks and assessments, to accessible formats such as large print or Braille
  • Deliver direct instruction both in and outside the classroom, focusing on compensatory skills, orientation and mobility, and technology use
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and families to support inclusive educational experiences
  • Maintain thorough documentation and progress reports for each student
  • Facilitate professional development sessions to educate staff on accommodations and best practices for students with visual impairments
