Job Description

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or Orientation & Mobility, or relevant state licensure
  • Experience providing educational support to visually impaired students in school settings
  • Familiarity with adaptive technology, Braille instruction, large print materials, and assistive devices
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work closely with students, families, and school staff
  • Strong organizational skills and adaptability in dynamic educational environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students individual visual needs and participate in developing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Provide direct instruction in academic, adaptive, and compensatory skillsincluding Braille, daily living, and orientation/mobility when applicable
  • Consult with classroom teachers and staff on accessible curriculum and necessary classroom modifications
  • Advocate for accessible learning, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment
  • Monitor student progress, maintaining thorough documentation and adjusting strategies as needed
  • Guide families in understanding the tools, resources, and supports that enhance independence for students with visual impairments
