Key Qualifications:

  • Valid certification in Visual Impairment instruction or eligibility for certification
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments, either in classroom or one-on-one settings
  • Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with general education teachers, special education staff, and families
  • Proficiency in assessment, IEP development, and implementing customized educational strategies
  • Familiarity with assistive technology, Braille, orientation and mobility, and adaptive materials
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students visual needs and create individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Provide direct instruction in core academic subjects, Braille, and technology adapted for visual needs
  • Support classroom teachers in modifying curriculum and assignments
  • Advise on and facilitate use of assistive devices and learning tools
  • Monitor student progress and communicate regularly with parents and staff
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal setting
  • Offer guidance on orientation and mobility needs as related to the educational environment
