Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field
- Previous experience working with children or youth who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
- Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
- Flexibility, resourcefulness, and a commitment to student-centered teaching
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting lessons to meet individual needs
- Conduct functional vision assessments and collaborate on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Work closely with classroom teachers to modify curriculum, materials, and learning environments
- Provide guidance on assistive technology and specialized equipment to support student learning and independence
- Offer training and support to faculty, families, and paraprofessionals regarding best practices for students with visual impairments
- Maintain thorough documentation of student progress, interventions, and outcomes
