Job Description

Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Visual Impairments, or a related field
  • Previous experience working with children or youth who are visually impaired, preferably in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work within an interdisciplinary team
  • Flexibility, resourcefulness, and a commitment to student-centered teaching

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting lessons to meet individual needs
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and collaborate on Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to modify curriculum, materials, and learning environments
  • Provide guidance on assistive technology and specialized equipment to support student learning and independence
  • Offer training and support to faculty, families, and paraprofessionals regarding best practices for students with visual impairments
  • Maintain thorough documentation of student progress, interventions, and outcomes
