Job Description

Step into an essential role supporting students with visual impairments across a network of schools in the Chattanooga area. This full-time contract assignment begins August 5, 2026, and runs through May 19, 2027, offering the opportunity to make a transformative impact on K-12+ learners who have been waiting for specialized instruction. What were looking for:

  • Valid, active DOE teaching certification
  • Experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), preferably in itinerant roles
  • Proficiency in Braille and use of assistive technology; familiarity with the Federal Quota program a plus
  • Knowledge of IEP processes (TN Pulse platform experience preferred)
  • Ability to support a caseload spanning general education classrooms and settings for students with multiple disabilities
  • Willingness to travel efficiently between assigned schools within the district
  • Commitment to timely completion of fingerprinting and credentialing requirements
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with educators and families

What youll do:

  • Provide direct instruction and consultation for students with visual impairments in K-12+
  • Collaborate closely with classroom teachers and participate actively in IEP meetings
  • Assess student needs and ensure they have access to appropriate materials and assistive technology, including Chromebooks
  • Develop individualized plans to support academic and functional vision needs
  • Create meaningful learning opportunities for students with diverse abilities and backgrounds
  • Track progress and maintain accurate documentation within TN Pulse and other district platforms
