Qualifications:
- Valid certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience in K-12 educational settings, preferably with diverse student populations
- Proficient in Braille and accessible technology for visual impairments
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Understanding of IEP development, progress monitoring, and relevant federal/state regulations
Responsibilities:
- Conduct functional vision assessments and collaboratively develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Adapt curriculum and instructional materials to ensure accessibility for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, use of assistive technology, and orientation/mobility techniques
- Offer consultative support to general educators, staff, and families regarding best practices
- Track student progress and maintain clear documentation in accordance with district policies
- Advocate for student inclusion and accessibility across school settings
