Job Description

Elevate the learning journey for students with visual impairments by supporting K-12 learners across elementary, middle, and high schools in the Chattanooga area. This contract-based opportunity is ideal for educators who are passionate about making a lasting impact, thrive in itinerant roles, and are adept at teaching in both general education and specialized classroom settings.

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, traveling between geographically assigned schools to best serve student needs
  • Teach and support students using Braille and a variety of assistive technology devices
  • Collaborate with educators, staff, and families to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) utilizing the TN Pulse platform
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings and contribute expertise in accessibility, learning strategies, and technology
  • Maintain accurate progress reporting and support compliance with all program requirements and regulations

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years experience as a Virtual Teacher for the Visually Impaired (required for virtual candidates)
  • Current DOE teaching certificate for Visually Impaired/Blind
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Braille and assistive technology; knowledge of Federal Quota program is a plus
  • Ability to work with K-12 students, including those with multiple disabilities
  • Familiarity with Chromebooks in the educational context
  • Completion of state and district fingerprinting/background checks prior to start
