Qualifications and Experience:

  • Current teaching certification with an endorsement or credential for teaching students with visual impairments
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or a related field
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, large print, and assistive technologies
  • Previous experience working with visually impaired students in a school setting preferred
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with other educators, support staff, and families
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Adaptability and a passion for fostering inclusive learning environments

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative services to students who are blind or low vision in classroom and individual settings
  • Assess student needs to develop appropriate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Implement and adapt curriculum materials to meet the unique needs of each student
  • Instruct students in Braille, use of adaptive devices, orientation, and mobility skills as needed
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to facilitate student access to general education content
  • Serve as a resource and advocate for students, families, and educators
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress and services provided
