What You'll Need:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or Special Education (as required by state regulations)
- Experience working with children or adolescents who are visually impaired, including adapting curriculum and materials
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
- Familiarity with developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
- Compassion, creativity, and a commitment to equitable learning opportunities
Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Develop customized lesson plans and instructional materials to meet individual student needs
- Teach Braille, assistive technology, and self-advocacy skills in both one-on-one and small group settings
- Consult with classroom teachers and staff to ensure curriculum accessibility and accommodations
- Participate in IEP meetings, contributing valuable insights to enhance student learning outcomes
- Support families and caregivers, offering strategies and resources to aid student progress at home and school
- Monitor, assess, and document student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary
