What You'll Need:

  • Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or Special Education (as required by state regulations)
  • Experience working with children or adolescents who are visually impaired, including adapting curriculum and materials
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
  • Familiarity with developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Compassion, creativity, and a commitment to equitable learning opportunities

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop customized lesson plans and instructional materials to meet individual student needs
  • Teach Braille, assistive technology, and self-advocacy skills in both one-on-one and small group settings
  • Consult with classroom teachers and staff to ensure curriculum accessibility and accommodations
  • Participate in IEP meetings, contributing valuable insights to enhance student learning outcomes
  • Support families and caregivers, offering strategies and resources to aid student progress at home and school
  • Monitor, assess, and document student progress, adjusting instruction as necessary
