Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification with a specialization in visual impairment
- Experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments, preferably in a K-12 school setting
- Strong working knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills when working with students, families, and educational teams
- Skilled in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) or 504 plans
- Passion for advocating for students needs and fostering growth in diverse learners
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and use of adaptive technology
- Adapt classroom materials, activities, and assessments to ensure accessibility
- Collaborate with general and special education teachers to modify lessons and monitor progress
- Assess students functional vision, learning needs, and recommend assistive devices or accommodations
- Participate in IEP meetings, contributing expertise on visual impairment supports and goals
- Offer guidance and training to teachers, staff, and families around best practices for inclusion
