Desired Skills and Experience:
- Specialized certification or credential as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience working with students who are visually impaired, preferably in a school environment
- Strong understanding of assistive technology and adaptive tools for visual impairments
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities when working with students, colleagues, and parents
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- High level of organizational skills and adaptability
Core Responsibilities:
- Provide instruction and support tailored to the needs of students with visual impairments, focusing on both academic and functional life skills
- Adapt curriculum materials to accessible formats
- Consult with general education teachers and staff to support an inclusive classroom environment
- Assess students needs and progress, documenting outcomes and adjusting strategies as necessary
- Collaborate with families to maximize student learning and independence
- Advocate for appropriate accommodations and resources within the school setting
