Qualifications and Experience Sought:
- Certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Experience working with children and adolescents with varying degrees of visual impairment
- Familiarity with Braille, assistive technologies, and accessible materials
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
- Ability to assess student needs and design individualized educational plans
- Organizational skills to effectively manage caseload and documentation requirements
Role Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students across grade levels
- Adapt classroom materials and educational content to accessible formats, including Braille and large print
- Consult with general education teachers to make curriculum modifications and recommend instructional strategies
- Evaluate students functional vision and learning environments to maximize accessibility
- Offer guidance on assistive technology tools, mobility techniques, and independence skills
- Maintain thorough records of student progress, communications, and instructional interventions
- Participate actively in IEP meetings and contribute to ongoing professional development
