Qualifications and Experience Sought:

  • Certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Experience working with children and adolescents with varying degrees of visual impairment
  • Familiarity with Braille, assistive technologies, and accessible materials
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with teachers, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to assess student needs and design individualized educational plans
  • Organizational skills to effectively manage caseload and documentation requirements

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction tailored to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students across grade levels
  • Adapt classroom materials and educational content to accessible formats, including Braille and large print
  • Consult with general education teachers to make curriculum modifications and recommend instructional strategies
  • Evaluate students functional vision and learning environments to maximize accessibility
  • Offer guidance on assistive technology tools, mobility techniques, and independence skills
  • Maintain thorough records of student progress, communications, and instructional interventions
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings and contribute to ongoing professional development
