Job Description
A full-time teaching opportunity is available for educators specialized in serving students with visual impairments, grades K-12, within a public school setting in Portsmouth, VA. This contract position spans the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning in August 2025 and concluding in May 2026.
Key Qualifications:
- Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required)
- Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
- Ability to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to visual disabilities
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Willingness to engage in situational interview processes promptly
Position Details:
- Location: Portsmouth, VA, with outreach possible in Chesapeake, Norfolk, or Suffolk, VA
- Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
- Duration: August 2025 through May 2026
- Student Population: K-12 students with visual impairments
- Caseload: Direct service and instructional responsibilities for visually impaired students across grade levels
Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments
- Collaborate with school staff, families, and related service providers to promote student success
- Monitor and document student progress in accordance with district and state guidelines
- Adapt curriculum and materials to meet the unique needs of visually impaired learners
- Participate in professional development and contribute to a supportive educational environment
