Seeking a dedicated Teacher of the Visually Impaired to support K-12 students throughout the school year from August 2025 to May 2026 in the Portsmouth, VA area. This full-time contract position (37.5 hours per week) offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students with visual impairments across multiple locations, including Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk, VA.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering specialized instruction tailored to students with visual impairments
- Collaborating with teachers, families, and support staff to develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Implementing assistive technology and adaptive learning strategies
- Monitoring student progress and adjusting teaching methods accordingly
- Providing a supportive and accessible learning environment that fosters student independence and confidence
Qualifications and experience desired:
- Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (mandatory)
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments across the K-12 spectrum
- Strong communication skills and the ability to conduct situational interviews
- Ability to make prompt decisions with offer turnaround of 24-48 hours
- Commitment to working in a dynamic school district setting
Work location is primarily Portsmouth, VA, with service areas extending to Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk, VA.
