Job Description

A full-time teaching opportunity is available for educators specialized in serving students with visual impairments, grades K-12, within a public school setting in Portsmouth, VA. This contract position spans the 2025-2026 academic year, beginning in August 2025 and concluding in May 2026.

Key Qualifications:

  • Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required)
  • Experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired
  • Ability to implement individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to visual disabilities
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Willingness to engage in situational interview processes promptly

Position Details:

  • Location: Portsmouth, VA, with outreach possible in Chesapeake, Norfolk, or Suffolk, VA
  • Schedule: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Duration: August 2025 through May 2026
  • Student Population: K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Caseload: Direct service and instructional responsibilities for visually impaired students across grade levels

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction and support to students with visual impairments
  • Collaborate with school staff, families, and related service providers to promote student success
  • Monitor and document student progress in accordance with district and state guidelines
  • Adapt curriculum and materials to meet the unique needs of visually impaired learners
  • Participate in professional development and contribute to a supportive educational environment
