Job Description

Make a meaningful difference in the lives of students by providing direct support as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired for the 20262027 school year. This contract-based opportunity requires you to work onsite, serving a district near Portland, MI, with a caseload and specific building assignment to be determined. Youll play a crucial role in ensuring students with visual impairments receive comprehensive, individualized instruction and advocacy to help them access curriculum, increase independence, and achieve educational success in alignment with their IEPs.

Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification or licensure in special education for visual impairments
  • Demonstrated experience as a teacher for the visually impaired
  • In-depth understanding of IEP development and implementation for students with visual impairments
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with school staff, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and accessible learning environment

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instructional services to students with identified visual impairments
  • Collaborate with school personnel and families to design and execute effective accommodations
  • Monitor and document student progress, making data-driven adjustments to teaching strategies as needed
  • Support students with assistive technology and mobility training
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise on accessibility and modifications
  • Advocate for student needs and assist with transition planning as appropriate
