This rewarding position involves supporting school-aged students across multiple locations within the county, helping to create accessible learning environments and empowering students with visual impairments to thrive.

Key Qualifications and Experience:

  • State certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Strong understanding of assistive technology and adaptive educational materials for students with vision loss
  • Ability to manage an itinerant caseload and reliable transportation for frequent local travel
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and interdisciplinary teams

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments using individualized and adaptive techniques
  • Consult with classroom teachers and school staff to develop and implement appropriate accommodations
  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs, and create individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Support students use of low vision devices, braille, and other specialized materials
  • Travel between assigned schools within the county to deliver services and monitor student progress
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence among students with visual impairments
