Job Description
Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a specialist providing Braille services and direct support. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work closely with a dedicated educational team to enhance learning for students with visual impairments. You'll take responsibility for daily Braillist duties, utilizing your expertise to ensure accessibility and equity within the classroom.
What youll bring:
- National-level certification in Braille transcription, such as from the Library of Congress or equivalent
- Previous experience as a Braillist, especially in educational settings
- Strong familiarity with assistive technology and adaptive devices for visually impaired students
- Proficiency in producing accessible classroom materials and supporting individualized education plans
- Clear communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
- Flexibility to work onsite, with potential for virtual engagement as needed
Your key responsibilities:
- Transcribe educational content, textbooks, and instructional materials into Braille
- Prepare customized tactile resources to support instruction for visually impaired learners
- Work closely with teachers and staff to adapt curriculum and class materials based on student needs
- Offer guidance on using adaptive and assistive devices to facilitate student participation
- Maintain confidentiality and compliance with relevant educational standards
- Support daily instructional activities and foster student independence
