Job Description

Empower students to reach their full potential by providing vital support as a teacher for the visually impaired within a dynamic school environment. As an essential team member, youll collaborate closely with educators, parents, and support staff to ensure students with visual impairments have the tools, strategies, and confidence to succeed both academically and socially.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching credential with an endorsement or specialization in teaching students with visual impairments
  • Proven experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairment in educational settings
  • Solid understanding of specialized instructional strategies, Braille, assistive technology, and mobility techniques
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, working effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each students needs
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing classroom environments and student requirements

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized lesson plans, accommodations, and modifications for students
  • Teach Braille, assistive technology, daily living skills, and orientation and mobility techniques, as needed
  • Assess student progress and adjust instruction to maximize success and growth
  • Work closely with classroom teachers to adapt materials and curricula for accessibility
  • Serve as an advocate for students, supporting social integration and self-advocacy skills
  • Engage families in the educational process and provide guidance on resources and support services
  • Maintain clear documentation and participate in IEP meetings to help guide educational outcomes
