As a valued contract professional, you'll champion the unique learning needs of students with visual impairments and empower them to thrive academically and socially.
Key Skills & Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
- Demonstrated experience working with students ages K-12 who are blind or visually impaired
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology and accessible instructional materials
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills with teachers, staff, and families
- Ability to adapt curriculum and teaching strategies to varied visual abilities
- Experience developing customized Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) is preferred
What You'll Do:
- Assess students functional vision and learning environments to guide instructional planning
- Develop and implement tailored lessons in core academics, orientation & mobility, and independent living skills
- Advise and collaborate with classroom teachers to modify materials and teaching strategies
- Support families in understanding student needs and advocate for appropriate accommodations
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation of student progress and services provided
- Stay current with best practices and innovations in visual impairment education
- Foster a positive, inclusive atmosphere where every student is empowered to succeed
