As a teacher specializing in visual impairments, youll provide impactful instruction and advocacy for students, collaborating with educational teams and families to ensure all learners reach their full potential.
Key qualifications and background:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
- Experience providing direct and consultative services to students (K-12) with visual impairments
- Strong knowledge of technology tools, braille, and adaptive materials for students with visual needs
- Ability to perform functional vision assessments and contribute to Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Clear communication skills, empathy, and a collaborative mindset
- Commitment to fostering inclusive learning environments
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Developing and implementing individualized lesson plans in collaboration with classroom teachers
- Teaching students braille, assistive technology, orientation and mobility basics, and self-advocacy skills
- Conducting assessments and providing recommendations for accommodations and resources
- Partnering with families, staff, and related service providers to monitor progress and share strategies
- Advocating for accessible materials and inclusive practices across the school community
