Key Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement or specialization in Visual Impairment or Blindness
  • Experience providing direct instruction to students with visual impairments, preferably in a school setting
  • In-depth understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies
  • Ability to perform functional vision assessments and adapt curriculum materials appropriately
  • Strong communication skills to consult effectively with teachers, families, and support staff
  • Organizational skills for timely documentation, progress monitoring, and creating individualized plans

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams
  • Assess student needs and recommend assistive devices, technology, and classroom modifications
  • Serve as a resource for staff regarding best practices in teaching and supporting visually impaired students
  • Conduct ongoing evaluations to monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly
