Empower students and support their learning as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in an engaging K-12 educational setting! This part-time contract opportunity offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in the lives of students with visual impairments, providing instruction, resources, and advocacy to foster academic and life skills success. This role is located near Ossineke, MI, with flexible service deliveryonsite is preferred, but virtual/remote instruction (VOCO) will be considered for qualified candidates.
Responsibilities include:
- Delivering specialized instruction to K-12 students with visual impairments, adapting materials and methods to individualized education plans
- Conducting assessments, maintaining student records, and participating in IEP meetings
- Collaborating with educational staff, families, and related service professionals to ensure access and inclusion
- Providing orientation and mobility guidance, and training staff on effective inclusion strategies
- Assisting with technology selection and adaptation to best support students' learning
- Maintaining regular communication with families, teachers, and support personnel
- Staying current with best practices and legal requirements for visually impaired student support
Desired qualifications:
- Current, valid Michigan teaching license for Teachers of the Visually Impaired (please verify at the Michigan educator credential search website)
- Experience teaching students with vision impairments in a school setting
- Familiarity with accessible educational technologies (Braille, screen readers, magnification devices, etc.)
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Comfortable providing services both onsite and virtually if needed
