Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Deep understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication skills for effective collaboration with colleagues and families
- Compassionate approach and patience when working with students with varying needs
- Flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic school setting
Responsibilities:
- Assess the unique educational needs of students with visual impairments and develop tailored lesson plans
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation & mobility, and use of adaptive technology
- Work in partnership with classroom teachers to integrate accessible learning strategies
- Recommend and facilitate the use of assistive technology and equipment
- Conduct regular progress monitoring and maintain detailed documentation
- Serve as an advocate for student accessibility and inclusivity throughout the school environment
- Consult and communicate consistently with families and multidisciplinary teams to support student goals
