Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid state teaching certification with appropriate endorsement to serve students with visual impairments
  • Experience or coursework in teaching braille and the use of assistive technology for visually impaired students
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to diverse student needs
  • Strong communication skills for engaging with students, families, and school staff
  • Familiarity with core curriculum modifications and accommodations for visual accessibility

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments across a range of grade levels
  • Assess student abilities to determine appropriate educational strategies, accommodations, and goals
  • Create and adapt instructional materials to ensure accessibility, including braille, large print, and tactile formats
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, therapists, and parents to support student learning and participation
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and maintain accurate documentation of progress and outcomes
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to interdisciplinary planning for each students success
