Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in K-12 settings preferred
- Strong skills in the development and instruction of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility techniques
- Ability to create and adjust individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Collaborative spirit, able to work effectively with educators, families, and support staff
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision and learning needs
- Develop and implement tailored IEPs in partnership with multidisciplinary teams
- Teach Braille, adaptive technology, and daily living skills to promote student independence
- Consult with classroom teachers and provide guidance on accommodations and modifications
- Monitor student progress, adjusting strategies as needed to maximize success
- Advocate for students needs in IEP meetings and support ongoing staff education
- Foster a supportive, engaging learning environment that encourages growth and confidence
