Qualifications and Desired Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility for certification
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in K-12 settings preferred
  • Strong skills in the development and instruction of Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility techniques
  • Ability to create and adjust individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Collaborative spirit, able to work effectively with educators, families, and support staff

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision and learning needs
  • Develop and implement tailored IEPs in partnership with multidisciplinary teams
  • Teach Braille, adaptive technology, and daily living skills to promote student independence
  • Consult with classroom teachers and provide guidance on accommodations and modifications
  • Monitor student progress, adjusting strategies as needed to maximize success
  • Advocate for students needs in IEP meetings and support ongoing staff education
  • Foster a supportive, engaging learning environment that encourages growth and confidence
