Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision preferred

  • Ability to develop, implement, and monitor individualized education programs (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff
  • Organizational skills and the ability to adapt lessons for varied ability levels

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in individual and group settings
  • Assess students functional vision and adapt curriculum materials as needed
  • Consult and collaborate with classroom teachers and other specialists to implement modifications and accommodations
  • Monitor student progress and regularly update IEPs, documenting achievements and areas for growth
  • Train staff and family members on techniques, tools, and resources for visually impaired students
  • Advocate for necessary resources and technologies to enhance student participation and independence
