Empower students with visual impairments across the K-12 spectrum as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired for the 2025-2026 academic year. This full-time contract position serves schools near Norfolk, Chesapeake, and Suffolk, VA, offering the chance to make a lasting difference in a dynamic educational environment.
Ideal candidates are passionate about fostering accessibility, independence, and confidence in visually impaired learners. You will collaborate with educators, families, and support staff to deliver customized instruction and support, ensuring each student receives the resources they need to thrive.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Valid Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (non-negotiable)
- Experience teaching students with visual impairments, ideally in K-12 settings
- Strong understanding of adaptive technologies, braille, orientation and mobility skills
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to design and implement individualized education plans
- Flexibility and commitment to supporting students across multiple campuses
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to K-12 students with visual impairments
- Develop and adapt lesson materials to ensure accessibility
- Advise general education staff on best practices and necessary accommodations
- Conduct functional vision and learning media assessments
- Liaise with families to encourage involvement and set student goals
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed
