Job Description

Step into a rewarding contract role serving students K-12 as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired for the 2025-2026 academic year. Working across a network of schools in the Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk area, you will provide invaluable support to visually impaired learners and play a crucial part in their educational journey.

This full-time opportunity (37.5 hours per week) spans from August 2025 through May 2026. Youll have the chance to design innovative strategies, collaborate on individualized education plans, and advocate for accessible learning, all while engaging with a supportive community of educators. Candidates must hold a valid Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required)
  • Experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Ability to assess, develop, and implement individualized instructional plans
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Passion for fostering independence and academic growth among visually impaired students

Role Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instructional services for students with visual impairments
  • Conduct specialized assessments and interpret results for team planning
  • Mentor and support classroom teachers in adapting curriculum and materials
  • Prepare and provide accessible materials and resources
  • Participate in multidisciplinary IEP meetings, contributing specialized expertise
  • Advocate for the use of assistive technology and orientation/mobility supports
