Job Description
Step into a highly impactful educational role supporting visually impaired students across multiple locations in the New Orleans area. This contract position is ideal for a dynamic professional seeking to make a difference throughout the 2026-2027 academic year. Youll collaborate with educators and support staff, providing essential resources and instruction that elevate students academic experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Travel daily to various sites within the area to deliver services to visually impaired students
- Assess and interpret the unique needs of students, ensuring the provision of appropriate supports
- Offer in-service training for school personnel to foster inclusive environments
- Source, adapt, and provide specialized textbooks and materials for visually impaired learners
- Maintain ongoing communication with classroom teachers and state education personnel
- Deliver direct Braille and assistive technology instruction to students and staff
- Engage regularly with the state Department of Education and district leadership
- Fulfill additional duties as assigned by the Director of IDEA
What Were Looking For:
- Bachelors degree and current Louisiana DOE certification, plus visually impaired certification
- At least three years experience in elementary, secondary, or special education
- In-depth expertise with assistive technologies for visually impaired students
- Ability to instruct in Braille and provide guidance on orientation and mobility (preferred)
- Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Professionalism, adaptability, and disciplined organizational abilities
- Comfortable working itinerantly, with reliable transportation and mobility between sites
This role involves a 35-hour work week with flexibility to meet the changing needs of students and campuses. Physical requirements include sitting, standing, and occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.
