Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Vision Impairment, or related field
  • Valid Teaching Credential for the Visually Impaired
  • Previous experience working in a school setting, preferably with K12 students
  • Strong communication and organizational abilities
  • Proficient in Braille and adaptive technology
  • Ability to develop and implement customized educational plans based on individual student needs
  • Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and support staff

Responsibilities:

  • Assess and identify individual student needs related to visual impairment
  • Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects using adaptive methods and materials
  • Teach skills for orientation, mobility, Braille literacy, and use of assistive technology
  • Consult with teachers, aides, and family members to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Track student progress, provide regular updates, and adjust strategies as needed
  • Participate in professional development and staff meetings
