Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Vision Impairment, or related field
- Valid Teaching Credential for the Visually Impaired
- Previous experience working in a school setting, preferably with K12 students
- Strong communication and organizational abilities
- Proficient in Braille and adaptive technology
- Ability to develop and implement customized educational plans based on individual student needs
- Collaborative mindset, able to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and support staff
Responsibilities:
- Assess and identify individual student needs related to visual impairment
- Deliver direct instruction in core academic subjects using adaptive methods and materials
- Teach skills for orientation, mobility, Braille literacy, and use of assistive technology
- Consult with teachers, aides, and family members to ensure accessibility and inclusion
- Develop and maintain Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Track student progress, provide regular updates, and adjust strategies as needed
- Participate in professional development and staff meetings
