Job Description
Located near Miami, FL, this full-time contract position offers an opportunity to serve as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired working within a collaborative, co-teaching environment. The caseload is divided between two classrooms, each serving approximately 10 students, providing specialized instruction and support to visually impaired children.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction in braille literacy and assistive technology tailored to blind and visually impaired students.
- Collaborate with instructional staff by providing guidance on implementing appropriate accommodations in the classroom setting.
- Adapt learning environments to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
- Support families through braille instruction and outreach services.
- Attend Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings to advocate and plan for student needs.
- Offer early intervention support aligned with client goals.
- Participate in various Childrens Programs as needed.
- Maintain current professional accreditations and complete continuing education requirements.
- Update client assessments and document progress accurately using designated database systems.
- Contribute to curriculum adaptations reflecting advances in the field and individual student requirements.
- Engage in staff meetings, community fairs, and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Current Florida Department of Education certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) is required.
- Experience in braille instruction and assistive technology for visually impaired students.
- Strong collaboration skills within a co-teaching environment.
- Ability to provide family support and participate actively in IEP and early intervention processes.
