Job Description

Make an impact as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, serving students across multiple sites in the New Orleans area through a school year contract. This rewarding, full-time opportunity allows you to work with a diverse caseload, offering essential support and direct services to visually impaired students from elementary through secondary levels. As an itinerant professional, youll travel to various campuses, collaborating with school personnel to ensure all visually impaired students receive the resources and instruction they need for academic success.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with required certification in education for the visually impaired (active Louisiana DOE Certification and visually impaired credential).
  • At least three years of experience in elementary, secondary, and/or special education environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire, motivate, and be a positive change agent.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving abilities; adept at using student data to guide educational approaches.
  • Proficiency in assistive technology for visually impaired learners, including training for both students and instructional colleagues.
  • Ability to provide Braille instruction.
  • Familiarity with orientation and mobility training (preferred).
  • Willingness and ability to travel between multiple school sites daily.
  • Successful completion of required background checks and credentialing procedures.

Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate and interpret the needs of visually impaired students across different JP campuses.
  • Obtain and distribute specialized textbooks and instructional materials.
  • Offer in-service training for school staff supporting visually impaired students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to develop appropriate reading materials.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Louisiana Department of Education and administrative leadership.
  • Provide direct instructional services and support innovative practices for visual impairment.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.
