Step into a rewarding full-time contract role supporting students with visual impairments throughout the school year, from mid-August to June. As a Braille Transcriptionist, youll play a vital part in ensuring academic equality by transforming printed classroom materials, textbooks, tests, and handouts into accessible Braille resources. Youll work collaboratively with a dedicated team of Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVIs), supporting the academic success of students who are blind or low vision at the secondary level.

Your expertise will allow you to directly impact education for students in need, working closely with educators and administrators. This position is based near Meriden, CT, and involves assignments at an innovative secondary academy focused on aerospace and engineering.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• At least one year of experience operating Braille typing equipment
• Certification as a Braille transcriber highly preferred
• Strong collaboration skills and a passion for accessibility
• Ability to manage time and workload independently across school assignments
• Commitment to detail and accuracy with educational materials

Responsibilities:

• Convert all necessary educational documents into Braille for students with visual impairments
• Partner with TVIs to ensure timely delivery and quality of instructional materials
• Maintain confidentiality and professionalism with student information
• Assist in identifying resources and tools to best serve the needs of students
• Manage and organize Braille materials to facilitate easy classroom access
• Adapt to changing classroom needs across multiple assignments within the school
