Qualifications & Experience:

  • Current teaching certification with a specialization in Visual Impairment (TVI)
  • Previous experience instructing K-12 students with visual impairments preferred
  • Strong understanding of braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional materials
  • Excellent communication skills for working with families, educators, and related service staff
  • Ability to conduct functional vision assessments and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Proficiency in adapting curriculum to meet diverse learning needs

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments across grade levels
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to create accessible lesson plans and classroom environments
  • Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision, learning media, and assistive technology needs
  • Maintain accurate student records, progress reports, and documentation for IEP meetings
  • Train staff and families on effective strategies and use of adaptive equipment
  • Advocate for student inclusion and accessibility throughout the school environment
