Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students with visual impairments, preferably in a school or similar educational environment
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, orientation and mobility strategies, assistive technology, and accessible instructional techniques
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
  • Organizational abilities to keep student records and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Dedication to fostering a positive, inclusive classroom culture

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students visual functioning and learning needs to tailor instruction accordingly
  • Provide direct instruction in the use of Braille, assistive technology, and other adaptive tools
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, aides, and families to support student participation in all classroom activities
  • Develop and implement IEPs in line with federal and state guidelines for students with visual impairments
  • Adapt curricular materials and classroom environments for accessibility
  • Maintain regular progress monitoring and documentation
  • Serve as a resource to school staff regarding visual impairment accommodations and strategies
