Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairment (TVI) in Washington State or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience assessing and developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for visually impaired students
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive techniques for accessing curriculum
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and advocacy skills
  • Previous school-based or pediatric experience preferred

Day-to-Day Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and monitor effective instructional strategies tailored to individual student needs
  • Perform assessments to determine students strengths, challenges, and service requirements
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, aides, and other specialists to integrate accommodations into the general education environment
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive devices
  • Consult and support families to encourage student growth and independence beyond the classroom
  • Document progress and maintain timely, accurate reports in accordance with school and district requirements
