Job Description

Make a meaningful impact supporting students as a Visually Impaired Teacher on a contract basis in the Manhattan, KS area. This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with schools, helping students with visual impairments reach their full potential through specialized instruction and advocacy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Education or Special Education
  • Valid teaching certification with a Visually Impaired (VI) endorsement
  • Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials for low vision and blind students
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and school staff
  • Ability to travel between school sites as required

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials to their unique needs
  • Conduct thorough assessments to identify each students strengths and areas requiring support
  • Collaborate with educators, therapists, and support staff to develop effective instructional strategies
  • Train and consult with classroom teachers on the use of assistive technology and accessibility adaptations
  • Participate in IEP meetings and provide comprehensive progress reports
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages achievement and independence
