Essential Qualifications:
- Licensure or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience creating and implementing IEPs for students with visual impairments
- Strong collaboration skills for working with general and special education teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Proficiency in teaching Braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility skills
- Ability to assess student needs and adapt curriculum and materials accordingly
- Compassionate communication and advocacy skills with students and families
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments in both individual and group settings
- Develop and update individualized educational plans (IEPs) tailored to each students goals and progress
- Adapt curricula and materials to ensure accessibility using Braille, tactile graphics, or specialized software as needed
- Consult regularly with teachers, aides, and related service providers to facilitate inclusive experiences for students
- Offer guidance and training to staff and families about best practices, accommodations, and use of assistive technology
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting strategies to maximize achievement
- Support transition planning for students as they progress through grade levels
