Job Description

Key qualifications:

  • Valid credential or certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with K-12 students preferred
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and adapt curriculum
  • Flexibility and cultural sensitivity in diverse school settings

Primary responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both individually and in groups
  • Assess student abilities, progress, and needs to inform targeted teaching strategies
  • Adapt and create instructional materials in accessible formats, including Braille and large print
  • Guide classroom teachers and staff on best practices and accommodations for visually impaired students
  • Participate in IEP meetings, support goal development, and document progress
  • Offer guidance to families on resources, adaptive devices, and support services
  • Stay updated on advancements in assistive technology and incorporate them into instruction
