Job Description

Key Qualifications:

  • Current teaching certification, with a specialization or endorsement in teaching students with visual impairments
  • Experience or coursework in braille, assistive technology, and orientation & mobility techniques
  • Ability to adapt curriculum and materials to meet individual student needs
  • Strong collaboration skills to work with classroom teachers, families, and related service providers
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and record-keeping abilities
  • Commitment to fostering independence, confidence, and academic success in students

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized education plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students
  • Provide direct instruction in academic skills, daily living skills, braille literacy, and use of assistive technology
  • Consult with general education staff to modify classroom materials and instructional strategies
  • Conduct and interpret functional vision and learning media assessments for students
  • Promote self-advocacy, social interaction, and transitional planning for life beyond school
  • Offer guidance for parents and caregivers to support learning at home
  • Stay current with best practices and new developments in the field of visual impairment education
