Job Description

Embark on a meaningful contract role supporting students as a Visually Impaired Teacher. In this position, you will provide essential instruction and tailored accommodations, empowering learners with visual impairments to thrive academically and develop crucial life skills. Youll partner with educators, families, and support staff to ensure an inclusive environment where every student can achieve their best.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid certification to teach students with visual impairments
  • Experience working with school-aged children in individual and group settings
  • Solid understanding of braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility techniques
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities
  • Adaptability to meet diverse student needs and learning styles

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and materials as needed
  • Assess student abilities, develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), and monitor progress
  • Provide training and support for staff and family members to facilitate accessible learning
  • Recommend, teach, and evaluate the use of assistive devices and other resources
  • Foster a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages student independence
  • Maintain records, participate in IEP meetings, and contribute to team decision-making
